I'm looking for an easy-to-use and quick software program for creating various sized and simple site banners ... preferably freeware :)

We had a discussion earlier about Flash banner generators.

Maybe someone else knows of some FREE resources.

There are no hidden gems out there. Best thing is to hit the graphics category of your favorite directory and start surfing. The real tools are basically the big time graphics packages.

You can always try the gimp [gimp.org]. It is free and has a lot of good features.

When it comes to graphics, it seems nothing is quick and easy anymore. ;) I remember when you could find free graphics generator programs online, but they seem to have gone the way of the dinosaurs over the years.

I would recommend investing in a low-cost full-featured graphics program like Paint Shop Pro, or trying out GIMP (I assume you're on Windows? GIMP is available for Windows, *nix and Mac OSX, AFAIK). Then, once you're comfortable with the software, you can do a lot more than just make banners with it.

Thanks for the comments. Have decided to go for Paint Shop Pro with Animation Shop.
