I am new to flash, is there anyway to stop that message from appearing if the user dosn't have flash installed or has a older version of the flash player?

I dont think so....
You could always have a script that points the user to a page that doesnt need flash, but then you would have to make 2 pages...

I doubt you really want to install software on your users' computer without asking them. (at least if you want users to ever come back to your site.)
