The Latest Illustrator

Just got a copy of Maximum PC (or some other mag- I lose track) and it was talking about how the latest version of Illustrator is the cool stuff. Has anyone used it yet? I'm still dragging v.7./something around and it does fine by me. But I'm sorta itching for something new in my toolbox. Want to know if anyone's really taken it pedal to the floor with the new version, yet.

I'd go with the latest version. I haven't used Illistrator before, so I can't comment on how the new version differs from previous one's. But surely it's going to be far better than the one you have now.

I remember when PS6 came out, with plenty of new features out shinning 5.5. Yet with all the fancy new effects I'm still impressed with the mouse wheel allowing me to zoom in and out, the novelty will never wear off.

now I can't stand using 5.5 for that reason, I can get around nearly all of the other differences, but zooming seems like a chore. Zoom in, Zoom out, Zoom in, Zoom out
I guess I'm just easily amused.

I've got Illustrator 9 though I hardly use it.

It's err, pretty good. I often find these vector packages and I guess, unless I use it a lot, I'm not going to see the best side of it.

Does anybody know where I can find some good (free) tutorials for illustrator?

Tutorials? Who uses those? Manuals? Who reads those?

I know there's a zillion places online for Photoshop - but I haven't checked for Illustrator. I had a CD laying around here someplace and some videos that I lost ages ago about how to become The Illustrator Master Of The Universe. Never used them because I could never remember where the heck I put them. I just did it Manstyle and poked it with a stick until I got it to do my bidding.

I thought that's how everyone did it. ;)

I once came across a handful of tutorials on photoshop and I couldn't believe how much I didn't know. I considered myself a bit of a pro too!

Some of the techniques I learned were genious too.

Read the manual!? I can't ever remember reading a manual - probably why I keep breaking kitchen appliances but it's more fun that way.

joshie- have you done anything with vector transparencies? That was supposed to be one of the big mods a couple versions ago.
