Can someone tell me which software to use to create a branding guide or a user guide in pdf format (can be used for both viewing & printing)? I currently am trying the OpenOffice Word Writer from which I can export it as a PDF.

What is the industry standard? Do agencies use Acrobat Writer to create printable user guides/branding guide? or what else?

Thanks in advance!

Probably created in Indesign/Quark - then exported to PDF

Acrobat Pro will let you optimise the PDF - one for Printing and one for Screen - the difference is usually about 100 meg - so pretty useful.

I think that Adobe Framemaker is still the standard application for technical writers. It is designed to be used for authoring books - not letters and simple documents. However, the learning curve is a bit steep for new users. If OpenOffice Word Writer provides you with the the functionality you need for things like indexing, tables, cross-referencing, and exporting to PDF, I recommend sticking with that.
