Photoshop transparent gif problem

I've made a rounded rectangular box in photoshop. When I save it as a gif with a non transparent background it looks fine, but when I save it with a transparent background the rounded corners become all jagged and spiky.

As a png-24 image it looks perfect, but I want to use this image in the background property of CSS so that's a no go.

Sorry if this has been answered before, I've been scratching my head about this for a couple of days now and the WW google search doesnt seem to be working.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, juicytuna.

In the gif save settings there's a section for "matte" color. Set this to the background color the graphic is going to appear on. PS will feather the transparency edges with this color instead of the white default.

Thanks alot!

The edges still don't look perfect (I assume that's beause the background is a picture with high contrasts rather than a flat color), but a big improvement nontheless.

Have you tried using png-8 and played around with the dither options when you exported it for the Web? I did that with some images that were giving me troubles and it did the trick. If you need more specifics I'll try and remember exactly what it was:)

The problem with png-24 is that its not widely recognized/rendered by internet explorer. mozilla/firefox looked great...or was it the other way around? anyway png 8 may do the trick for you, it did for me and my client.
