You can set an in & out point, then copy and paste the part of the movie you want into a new movie file -- no re-compression involved.
I don't know if a action like that is scriptable or not, but it would be pretty fast: Set in; set out; Cmd/Ctrl-C; Cmd/Ctrl-N; Cmd/Ctrl-V; save.

You can batch a large amount of videos to have them all do the same thing, like remove the first 2 seconds and the last 2 secondsof a lot of videos all at once...
great product, been using it on a Mac for about 5 years.
