I am about to create a commercial web site and I am stuck for graphics. How do I go about getting good graphics to use on the site, and how do I ensure I am not breeching copyright?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have the owner's official okey dokey, then you should be fine on copyright. If you just take what you find, there could (eventually will) be trouble.

Search "stock photgraphy", "web graphics", and such. You'll find dozens of resources, ranging from free to obscenely expensive, and including every price point between. What is best for you depends upon your need for quality, exclusivity, your definition of good, .....

I like Eyewire/Getty/Corbis for high quality images. We have a subscription to Photos.com for budget images and [sxc.hu...] for free images.

You generally get what you pay for, but the free ones can be really good sometimes. Start there and work up.

Also, if you have some extra cash or have the bosses "OK" you can buy like an image library on disk...although, it does get tedious flipping through CD's...photos.com or other photo library's online might be a better option..

I've found the most cost-effective site to get high-quality images for design work is istockphoto.com. -- most sites you're paying at least $25-$50 per photo. You can get most photos for about $1 at istockphoto.
