Illustrator EPS

I have received an Illustrator EPS from an advertiser. This EPS is a run-of-the-mill advertisment from a local business. The problem is that when sent to the printer (Post Script 3) the drop-shadow gets all mucked up, and so does the text that was on top of it. I don't really know a whole lot about the Post Script neccessities with Illustrator, so I am asking you. Is there a special way to do a Drop Shadow in Illustrator so that it prints correctly? My guess is (and please shoot this down if I am wrong) that the drop shadow isn't rasterized, thus making it difficult for the printer to handle in some way? I really don't know.

BTW the Drop Shadow apears as though it has no transparency, just a solid glob. Any ideas..? Akk!

Illustrator effects are raster for some curious reason. I have had the same problem before. I instead copied and outlined the text then turned it grey. I positioned it on a layer behind and nudged it down and right so it looked like a drop shadow, but not quite like the drop shadow effect. There might be a setting to fix this but I haven't found it.

I think I may have found a work around... I flatened the dropshadow layer, THEN ratserized it (in effect just making it a 300 dpi image behind my text). I researched all night, and this was the easiest fix I could find. Still I have not found a difinitive reason for it not printing on a PS3 printer. Personally I am all for the 'hows' and 'whys' lol So this doesn't sit well with me!
