I am in process of investing a some money into my site to make it look more professional. One of the items that I need is to get a logo and possibly create some banner ads that I can advertise with on other sites.

Can anyone tell me about how much I should expect for these types of services? And if you offer them, let me know via pm :)

If you are knowledgable in Photoshop, you may be able to design them yourself.

If you are interested in logo software, I personally use AAA Logo (no affiliation), and like the ease of use.

Well one thing I know about myself are my limitations, and anything artistic is one of them. I have tried in the past, but just lack the skills :)

Kodaks suggestion is not a bad one. However having a logo in a non scalable format is quite restrictive - ideally you will need it in a vector format like editable EPS. I would expect to pay anywhere from between £100 - £1000 for a logo design. The more you pay the more revisions and choices you should get.

Contact your local colleges art department for raw talent - a catchy note on the bulletin board will get you a few offers on the cheap, even free if they are looking to expand their portfolio.

I just bought had a web firm develop a new logo for my company that was *amazing* and I paid, IIRC, about $200. They gave me 6-7 to choose from, I asked for a few edits that they made, and then they got it "right" and I was very happy.

yup any where around 200 to 400 $ should be good for a logo design.
Also you can search a few sites on the web which sells the logo designs and alters it to your requirement.
Though as a designer i would feel that it is much nicer to get it done from someone rather then buying off the shelf as a specially designed logo will be more meaningful!

If the websites I approach to advertise on my site don't have a banner or have a crappy one, I will make them one for free. It is in my best intrest to make the ads as compelling as possible, and in the long run I am rewarded for it.

You might take a look at the #CFUS forum (no affiliation). There is many logo designers and they are very reasonable regarding the prize.

use RAC or something like that. Make sure you don't pay until you are satisfied. Ask for samples before you'll pay--samples for your site.

Some will refuse, but some will do it. You can get them for less than 200 dollars easy.

I actually got lucky and met two guys, one from Inda and one from Australia who I became friends with and they do work for me all the time, sometimes free, but always 100% great quality.

If you find the right person overseas, who you can trust, you'll get a great deal
