Desktop icon to launch a website

How's it done?

I just noticed a competitor's website offering a file download that puts an icon on the desktop linking to their website.

Now that so many people have "always on" connections, I can see that this could be a useful promotional tool.

Does anyone know how it's done?

I don't have Visual Basic installed at the moment but it has the CreateShortcut function. I am not sure in this day and age how many websurfers would download and install a exe file from a website though.

It might be possible to do it in a batch file but I don't know of any way.

I don't know about other zip programs but I think winzip and winace both have the ability to package a zip inside an exe. If I remember correctly, you could tell winace where you wanted the zipped or aced file to be placed. You could add the desktop link to a zip and then turn it into a exe that places it on the desktop.

I have one of these on my desktop, it's simply an e-book which was downloaded in an exe format. Chapter one is a guide that was downloaded with the exe, but chapters 2 and 3 link directly to this company's main site and e-shop.

I have no idea how to make an e-book in this format im afraid.
