converting .ico files to gif

plz let me know any software through which i can convert .ico files to gif with transparent background

You may be able to simply change the file name. So if you have an .ico that is called "joe.ico," just change the name to "joe.gif."

You will have to remove the background yourself in Photoshop or some other graphics program.

errm.. I am pretty sure you can't just change the file mode.

Here is a link to download a plugin to handle ico formats in photoshop.

After installing you should just be able to open the file and save it as what ever you want.

I think icon-sushi (freeware) outputs to gif too

IrfanView is a great little image viewer that should let you open .ico files and save them out in almost any format.

There is a free plugin for PS that can be found HERE [telegraphics.com.au] Although I haven't used it yet myself, I'm sure it import the .ico format if it exports one. If so it will export easily as a transparent gif if you delete the background.
