I have an mosaic image longer than it is wide. I want to twist it as if were a ribbon held at both ends and turned a few degrees in opposite directions. Anyone think of a solution? I have access to most software.

An excellent filter to use in Photoshop is Visros. I use it for all kinds of things. It can even make your "ribbon" look like a cork-screw. It is shareware from visros-dot-com.

I you don't have the budget however, but you have a 3D modeling software program, Bryce, Maye etc... You could use your mosaic as a 2D texture in the 3D program, and then twist your item as much as you want, render, and output... This would even give you some realistic lighting, and shadowing on the ribbon.

Thanks lZakl

I'll have a look at that site. We don't have 3d rendering software, just pshop, illustrator etc, but a freelancer who works here has a copy of it. I'll ask him to see if he can mould the image. The additional lighting effects would be a bonus.

Cool stuff in Visros but I couldn't get the ribbon effect limbo wanted. (I hope someone has the PS answer, I have to do it in 3DStudio and it's more than a bit of work.)

Could it be done using illustrator/freehand? I am not sure there is a way to turn raster images into an bezier based object but if it's possible then maybe the images could be adapted using the subselect, bend & 3D rotation tools. Just theorising mind you.

I had no luck with Illustrator standard transform tools... the only thing I could find for PS that reads like it will do the job:
[andromeda.com...]
... the 3D Filter Plugin.
