I have an image whose file size I'd like to reduce but I'm not sure how. Any programs out there to do it?

You can reduce image file sizes in Photoshop. If you use Photoshop it is simple, simply click File>Save for Web> choose the image you want to save.

The Gnu Imaging Manipulation Program, (GIMP), is great for that sort of thing, plus it's free and open-source.

With the GIMP, you can reduce file size by changing the compression on a jpg, (with a corresponding reduction in quality, but as long as you don't go too far it isn't noticeable).

I'll throw another vote in for GIMP. For my needs I have found that it does everything that I'd need Photshop for, and you can't beat the price. I have freely exchanged matrial with a graphic/print design firm (in .psd and .jpg formats) and they never knew I wasn't using Photoshop.

Photoshop is pricey, GIMP is free but the user interface is far from intuitive.

Irfanview is free and has a simple interface. It can easily reduce the pixel size of an image, and can also reduce the quality to reduce the kilobit size.

The author of Irfanview has been releasing updates to the program for several years...he's a good guy.
