Fireworks ate my fonts.

I recently had to do a hard drive scrape. Like a moron I forgot to back up my FONTS folder, so after reinstalling everything, I just copied the FONTS folder from my wife's machine (she does graphic design work and archives all the fonts) and dumped it into mine.

Now FireworksMX won't use them. If I insert a textbox into an image and select from the font list, it displays the little preview text in the drop down, but in the image itself, the letters appear as those generic little rectangles. Only the basic core fonts actually show up as intended, but of course, if I were willing to work with those fonts I'd just skip the graphics program all together.

Has anyone had any experience with Fireworks not displaying their fonts? Any thoughts on what might be going on here or how to fix it?

I miss my pretty header text!

Thanks in advance for any responses.

No hard and fast answers - but what happens if you delete half the fonts in the new folder? And what happens if you deinstall a non-working font and then reinstall it via Windows (assuming you are on Windows - if you are a Mac user check the Fireworks technotes on the Macromedia site)?

From what I know, in Windows, you have to actually install the fonts and not just copy them.
You have to go to C:/windows/fonts , then go File, Install New Font. If you find your directory in the folder tree, click select all and OK, it should install all your fonts.

Hope this helps

All I've ever done in Windows is to dump font files into the fonts/ folder, sometimes by the hundreds, and they always work just fine.

YMMV

Yes, I also just copy them back and forth and they work perfectly? Are the 2 computers networked or did you copy the folder onto removable media? It's possible the folder you copied got corrupted in the process. Try selecting the font files themselves and paste them inside the fonts folder, that way any errors should show up individually.

Thanks to everyone for all the feedback.

It appears the .TTF files were indeed corrupted in transition between computers (used a flash drive that apparently got dropped one too many times). Erased all and recopied to a different media. Most fonts are now working fine.

Thanks again for the helpful input.

May I suggest that you make a couple of zipped (helps retain its integrity) backups of your wife's fonts folder, and save them to some reliable media. I have been stung so many times in the past relying on a sole backup, that invariably fails the moment I need it!
