I know it is possible to watermark images. Then even use search engines to scan the web for the watermarks in these images - to see if anyone is using them without your permission.

for instance the company:

[digimarc.com...]

does this. Very impressive - has search engine searching the web all the time for your images.

Is it possible to watermark mpegs? Are there search engines to search for watermarks in mpegs?

best,

Actually the whole point of watermarking is that you can't stop people pinching them. The company you quoted looks like it will track what users take from your site, and advise them of the illegality of it. Nothing can read a watermark in the actual image, except your eye, you'd have to do something to the file itself. Mpegs are not read by content either, but if anyone wants to use an image or a clip with your website address emblazened all over it, I suggest you let them.

From my experience with a professional photographer, a Digimarc watermark is not visible to the eye. But for the last 4 versions or so, Photoshop has included a filter that can digitally read (and embed) these watermarks. Stand-alone applications are also available.

Rhodopsin, their website has a main menu option for audio/video watermarking technology - have you checked it out.
