You could do this using the rounded rectangle tool in fireworks.

Take you photo - draw a series of rounded rectangles with no fill and about 4px border. Align them - group them copy and repeat the pattern to fill the photo.

Or

You could use the selection tool (rounded corners) to remove an area of square image and copy and paste that in the same way as above. The align functions will ensure the selections are well positioned.

To be more exact (+ faster) you can set up 'snap to grid' and size you rounded rectangles to fit the grid squares.

I don't have a plugin that'll do it - but it'd only take a few minutes to create that effect on a photo that size. And once you have a grid you are happy with you could save it as a command to re-apply in batches of photos.

Glad to be of help

I have taken my own advice and applied a similar effect to series of photo's taken this weekend.

Can't tell you how useful the command list in Fireworks can be - it's like having all my own plugins; tailor made!

much easier way of doing this is to get the rectangle in photoshop and convert it to a pattern and then apply the pattern to the image, this way you only have to mess with the triangle once and it'll repeat itself when the pattern is applied.

There is always a quicker way ;)

Looking at you recommendation I had a peek to see if Fireworks offered the same function as PS.

It does, and again creates the effect with less effort:

>> Create a rounded rectangle with dimensions of one cell of the grid pattern you want to make, on a transparent background. Set the width of the stroke to whatever meets you needs, and set it to 'fill over stroke' in the options pallet so you can better achieve the window effect.

- This forms one 'cell' of the grid pattern.

>> Save it (PNG)
>> Open the image you want to apply the grid pattern to
>> Draw a rectangle over the area you want to fill
>> Go to fill > pattern > choose 'other' > and select the PNG.

And voila! :)

Thanks for the tip, under influence.
