I'm trying to create an effect on a photograph which uses only 2 colors (black and white) and nothing in between... I've playing around with all the filters but can't figure this out.

Can anyone help? I can sticky you with examples i found on websites.

G'day, Geoapa!

To get your image black/ white you could:
1.Image -> Mode -> Greyscale
or
2. you could play around with the blue, red, green Channels
and then Image -> Adjustments -> Levels to get the look you are going for. This way is more customizable than simply converting to greyscale.

For the cartoon effect I have 2 simple suggestions:
1. Image -> Adjustments -> Posterize
or
2. Filter -> Artistic -> Poster Edges - then you can play around with the settings to get a good look.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but hope it helps somewhat.

Feel free to sticky those links so I understand what you're looking for better.

Cheers,

Winstun, you're on the right track with the Poster Edges. I've been playing around with it more and found the 'Cut Out' effect to be very close to the effect I was looking for but not quite.

I have stickied you with an example.

if you want simple black and white, select:
Image > Adjust > Threshold

then when the little window pops up, move the slider to control outline thickness, etc.
