I know that this has probably been asked before, but I can't find it anywhere on the site.

I've got a corporate DVD, just over 7 minutes long that I want to offer as a download on my website.

I realise that I'm going to have to compromise on sound and video quality, and reduce the screen size to , say, 160 x 128. But what is the best format to use (AVI,MOV,MPG?). And how small can I expect to be able to make the file, whilst still having acceptable quality. I can probably splice the video into 6 or 7 "chapters."

It will be large no matter what you do. How much I really don't know and depends on the codec you use. I would suggest having multiple types. That way you let the users use what they have and not make them download one type. Like having a windows media version and a quicktime version.
