autogenerate html, why does it do it so badly?

To all the ps guru's out there... I have a template that is pretty complex, and I decided to use imageready to just ouput everything I need. (I know, lazy, lazy, lazy...)
Why does image ready just put everything into one big table, with the un-logical way of having images lined up, and the superfluous usage of spacers? I have tried to fix what was done, but alas, I'm going to slice it up myself this time and build it by hand.

I guess I'm just musing about this.

Any mass market automated tool is going to have to serve the lowest common denominator so to speak. A table with spacing shims can be displayed correctly in just about every browser going back to Netscape 2.0, and it will also be easy for Joe and Jane Geocities to cut and paste the code into their site without problems. If I were their product manager, I'd probably assume a web professional is going to do the splicing manually anyway.
