Photoshop: Save For Web

Problem with file name length

When I 'save for web' in photoshop 6.0 I used to just be able to save long file names as jpgs without a problem, but now it only gives me the default option of saving as 'html and image'. It also truncates the long file name to around 27 characters. I know that this can be fixed by unticking the Mac Os box in Output Settings, but whenever I try to save another file, it goes back to this annoying setting again. I've even tried to save the settings.

Am i missing something? Hope someone can assist.

'html and image'

i dont have ps6 here, bbut that sounds like imageready to me.
also, i have never seen it where you 'have' to save with the html...

It's the default behavior in ImageReady when the file name is over a certain length - you have to click on the drop down and manually choose .jpg

TheCricketer,

I looked at your post yesterday and tried the same thing on PS6 - simply by unchecking the Mac OS in the output settings allows for long file names and it also keeps the settings for the next image, so I wasn't able to offer you any suggestions.

You allude to the fact that you used to be able to save them as jpg's with long file names, but not now. Have you tried uninstalling PS and re-installing? Not much help I'm afraid, but you never know.

Good luck,

It was definately photoshop. Both ps and imageready have similar saving for web capabilities.

I've found the answer. Even though I saved the setting (output settings) with 'mac Os' unchecked, when i came to saving another long file name it would revert from 'output settings' back to 'default settings'. This meant I just had to overwrite the default setting with the Mac Os unchecked and hey presto. Hope that makes sense for anyone who may have a similar problem.

Either do that or shorten the file name!
