I'm toying with the idea of building a site for a brick and mortar business. I would promote their products and take a commission on anything I sell, much like an affiliate site.

Before I go in and pitch to the store, I would like to see what kind of profit margin these items typically have so that I can put a reasonable commission percentage in the proposal.

Anyone have tips on getting this kind of information?

Currently:

I have a CPC of $0.21 for brick - with a 300% ROI.

Mortar is a little more competitive with a CPC of $0.52 - with a 200% ROI.

The brick and mortar business you are talking to depends on the particular retail industry the business is in. Much information can be found at the US census - Economic census data web site. Also, do a search on "retail industry gross margin" or something similar.
If it were me, I would simply ask their competitor or a similar business in a different city what they would do or afford to pay in this situation. Source your friends and network partners to see if anyone has any contacts within that particular field.
Good luck! WFN

Also there is a site called bizminer that sells info on all industries, and I am not affiliated with it. Great info. If you have businessplanpro software, it allows industry lookup for free, margins, ratios, etc.
