A client currently hosts their site on a server in Canada. Are there any legal issues (Taxes, fees) that I should be concerned with if I maintain the site from within the United States? Or should I host the site at a new location within the US.

Most of my servers are located within the US but a few of my clients host their sites in the UK where they are based and I've never had any issues with maintaining their sites.
The work is done on your computer locally and uploaded to their server so there shouldn't be a border issue.
