What to ask when interviewing?

Hey all

I have a future line up of interviews to do with several individuals to fill a SEO post within our company, and was wondering what would be points to bring up to properly assess someone's competence?

Keeping in mind that some of these individuals will be either:

A) Completely new, out of school with little or no knowledge of SEO.

or

B) Alledgedly experienced SEOs with alot of knowledge and background.

In the case of A, I want to make sure I can get a good feel for their
- ability to learn
- their ability to be auto-determined.
- if they can deal with a job that has many up and downs, constant changes, etc, and most importantly their ability to research and acquire important knowledge and skills, as most of us SEOs know already about ;)

In the case of B, I pretty much have a good idea of what to ask, but any pointers are more then appreciated.

thanks alot for the input guys/gals.

You won't get any type "B" at the interviews, you might get some people claiming to be "B", but, they will be "spinning".

So the real question is how to deal with type "A"'s:

You should be looking for two primary things:

1) A passionate desire to win, and a severe fear of losing.

2) A money driven individual.....they need to learn the ropes, but, once they do that they should want to bend you over and show you how it should be done!

To succeed in SEO you have to play with fire, it is not a "friendly" job. Look for the folks that are very arrogant, very hostile, and are very intelligent, and simply refuse to lose regardless of costs.

Then train then a tad in the corporate world and you will have some winners!
