Commissions and VAT

Is receiving commision payments classed as a supply?, is there a SIC code for it does it need to be added to your company registration?

To avoid irrecoverable VAT I will have to start invoicing companies for my commissions, does anyone else have to do this?

I'm no expert on VAT, but I would have thought it would be - can't see any reason why not. Perhaps you should ring HMRC and ask them?
