I will be working from home running my own design business. Can any of you tell me what your experience is with any of these two. Do you DSL or Cable? What is your experience?

Thanks in advance!

I use cable at home mainly because I get more bandwith for my $40.....

IMO, it really depends on how many cable users are in your area with which you would be sharing a node. The more users, the slower the connection.

In my area, cable is faster, but a little less stable. It is slowly becoming more saturated.

Hello Nu1,

Welcome to WmW! Hope you will like it as much I do.

I do not notice much difference between both cable/ADSL local services in general surfing. It's just when I download large files that cable is -a lot- better. Uploading on both services are quit similarily limited.

I use multiple accounts 56k dialup modem access for SEO job.

Thanks for the welcome! and for the info from all of you.

I do live around a lot of cable users so it looks like I may be going with DSL. Should I go with a dedicated IP or not? What is the difference? Thanks!

>live around a lot of cable users

If you know any of them well enough to try their service, check it out and go to sites that measure your bandwidth. (Like www.nextwish.org/geek/speedtest.php)

As far as a static or dynamic IP, static would help if you planned to host anything, dynamic would help you remain anonymous. (Think submissions and rank checking)

Just a little question here. It is adressed to Mac users.

Using a couple of local ADSL providers, I could not fill any HTML forms whith any of my Macs. Explanations from EX-ADSL providers where evasive, at best. Any similar experience or reason why this can happen?
