When you screw up, admit it. People like that you are human. Apologising shows you are polite. Extending the payment terms suggests you appreciate you've inconvenienced me/my cash flow. I'm now more inclined to stay loyal to you as a supplier.
At the year end we realized it was never sent/paid, so I mailed it off. Client didnt even ask about it, just sent the check without any issues.
