Hello all,

I am working as a Development Manager for a medium size web design company in China. They have quickly become a strong player in graphic user interfaces for software, video conference and MP3 player skins etc as well as mobile handheld devices such as PDA's, mobile phones, PMP's etc.

I am struggling to determine who is the target markets. I am thinking:-

- software designers
- UI designers
- Product/Brand managers

Do you think this is the right thinking? Are their others I haven't thought about?

The company has experience in China but not overseas but they have worked with some famous brands and getting referrals.

It could be all three of those, depending on the breath and depth of your product offerings. For example, you might have special tools geared towards UI designers, API libraries for software developers, and I'm not sure what offerings Product/Brand managers would include (marketability?), but you get idea idea.

I think it comes down to.. who is the end user?
and what is the UI trying to convey to the end user?

MP3 - general consumers of music...
Software - very broad user base...
Video Conferencing - Typically B2B ... so Business Managers or Project Manager level users
PDAs - very broad usage here..from consumer level to specific business applications
Mobile Phones - again..broad user base...very menu driven..

If I spent more time really thinking about this ... I could write a book for sure..

There are two types of customer groups that you can target individual consumers or other businesses. Individual consumers are little difficult as they are diverse and unpredictable and their buying preferences may change as they age.

While the Businesses group customers as a target market tend to be fairly stable over time and have large budgets to spend on various products and services. However you can target both group at a time if almost the survey has been completed.
