Travel Websites

How much do they earn?

I was wondering if anyone has experience with travel sites and what they earn? Commisions seem to be pathetically low, around 2% (i.e. somone drops $2,000 and you get a whopping $40). Anyone have any statistics about conversion rates, traffic, and earnings?

Thanks

You're right - travel is a volume business. And commissions are too low to really make any money on PPC adversiting - so you're going to need to kick ass at SEO to make any money. I had a couple of websites a while back and made up to $3k per month at one point before selling them. You can make decent money ... but you're going to work to do it.

There are of course people making a whole lot more than that even ... but it all comes back to how many positions you can command for important keypheases in the 3 search engines.

Good luck.

3K is pretty low. I live in a exotic mega resort now and was considering doing a travel site just becuase I'm on the ground, but seems like the opportunity cost is pretty steep. Maybe one would make more money with adsense than travel affiliates? What do you think?
