I am planning to purchase a travel web site with a two keyword domain name, something like visitcountry.com and I need to make an offer.

The web site has around 5 pages of content, which is brief information about the country and some company listings. It has an Alexa ranking of 1,4 million. MSN shows ~230 backlinks and Google shows ~30. It is more than 5 years old, and has a PR5.

I want to ask how much you think a web site like this would be worth. Thanks in advance.

If you want sticky me the url and I will take a look at it. Another thing is you could check out SitePoint.com's "websites for sale" forum to see how much similar sites are going for there.

Depends on lots of factors:

- The domain name itself.
- Is this domain associated with a real business?
- Is it a private owner or could it be owned by a state or country organization or government?
- Does it make the current owner money?
- When does the domain name expire?

It's tough to make an offer as a buyer. As soon as a domain name owner knows a buyer wants their domain name, they think "Cha-Ching!"...time to cash out. People still remember the old days of 5 and 6 figure domain name sales, so they want every bit they can squeeze out of you. I would not make an offer, but see if you can get a feeling for what they will sell it for. I've had sellers throw out a number to me (they think it's a high number to them), but their number is actually much lower than what I would have offered, so it could work in your favor.

If you offer $5k, they'll want $10k. An offer too low may insult them.

I would try to contact them by phone and ask them if it's for sale. If they say NO, respect their decision and then follow up with an email thanking them for their time and to keep you in mind if they ever do decide to sell.

If they don't give you a number, then ask them for stats, profits, and what type of marketing they do. Hopefully, that will give you a more accurate value of the domain name.
