If cost is only concern, try Google's free list server.

I don't see how this would be an effective way to manage an email newsletter either.

What problems do you have with PHPList? WHile I haven't used it extensively, I did manage a list a little over 4,000 (I know, that is not all that big) for some folks using PHPList, and it worked admirably. I could tell though that if the list size were to have been increased by a factor of 10 or more it would have become less than adequate.

My cpanel have a install button to activate, I did but nothing happens when I try to send anything. The screen where I suppouse must be a box to type your message appears with a X (similar those appear when an image is missing). I think that needs some configuration I ignore deeply.

Any idea?

I installed PHPList myself. Was quite easy if I remember right. Have you gone to the PHPList website. I think that there you will find install instructions and FAQ's. I think they even have a forum.

I suspect from my experience with it that it that the script will begin to seriously bog down by 10,000 names on the list, at least if you are doing HTML mailings. Perhaps plain text is a little more efficient. With the 4000 name list I used it with it performed very nicely though. Has some nice features like automatic handling of bounces and such.

I have been working on a custom CMS written in PHP for my website. One of the options is a newsletter manager. When users initially signup up and they are added to a db table. My manager is setup as an html form that I fill out with the subject line and message body. When I submit the page calls sendmail() which works along the db table of subscribed users. I use a loop to go through and send the email newsletter to each of them. I send about 100 a month at this point and it works very quickly and efficently.

You might try Constant Contact (hosted service online somewhere) which is very cost-effective list tool. I know several folks who use it. You can import existing list into easily.
