I recieved an unexpected bonus (just 10 % worth, no biggie) I feel we do not deserve. I understand it's their way to show us how grateful they are, and I dont want to hurt their feelings. But I feel like handing them back the cheque and tell them "I can do more for you with this money." I think it's good business pratice for longer term relationship.
Problem is, they have a limited inventory and will shut down the operation after it is sold. But the people operating it, will stay after that and work on new ventures.
What would you do, just cash the cheque and say 'wow! thank you', or try to make a deeper impression?
We've dealt with hundreds of clients but I've met just 2 guys who respectively fit the second & third category. 99.999% are average despite our natural human optimisim!
Be realistic. If they're average, take the money & run. If they're 2 or 3, take the money & send them a "thank you" gift in return = size of bonus.....
Especially if you can't retire on it!
