Hello all

I am just wondering if anyone out there can give me some advice. I run quite a large site and I have been approached by a company offering to buy my site.

They are offering the equivalent to the last 12 months advertising revenue as a purchase price and to keep me on as the webmaster for a percentage of the sale price to run the site on a 12 month contract.

With adsense over the last 12 months the figure is going to be quite high so I am naturally giving this some thought.

My first thoughts is this a spam proposal, is this sort of thing going on all of the time?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks

It may or may not be. With an offer of 12 months advertising, it seems like it is not.

Why not just reply and open up some discussion? You'll find out pretty quickly if they are serious.

When selling your site it matter less how much they offer. What matters is how much the site is worth TO YOU.

For example if you could leave your site for 12 months (no updates or minimal updates) and collect 80%-100% of your current revenue, why would you sell it?

Furthermore, if you pushed hard to increase revenue, could you get it up to 150% to 200% of current revenue?

Finally, how long would it take you to make a similarly earning site? If you have been working on your site for 10 years, then perhaps it isnt work it to tell it for a year's revenue.

We get this a lot... we own a small-mid size travel company that is 100% web based. People are always contacting us via email and phone to ask how much we want to sell it for.

When we tell them to contact the prez (me) with serious discussions they never call back.

I suspect that these are either competitors or people wanting our domain name and do not realise that the site makes good money.
