Hi there,

I have a number of clients who are looking for a complete email marketing/newsletter system. It needs the following:

- A WYSIWYG editor which will allow them to add images and text into a template
- Images need to be automatically re-sized to set parameters
- Broadcast capability via an SMTP server
- Backend database which manages the subscribers, including opt-in/out

Bascially a list manager for dummies. If anyone knows of a system it would be great if they could let me know.

I don't know about an integrated solution, but I've found Lyris/Sparklist useful for hosting newsletters, and AutoResponsePlus good for managing autoresponders. Some people also like MailLoop, although I haven't tried it.

What's odd is that Lyris have just increased pricing to what seems to me to be an unsustainable level. I think this is going to damage their market position, particularly given that you can do the same job with products like AutoResponsePlus.

It's really no trouble at all to use (say) Dreamweaver to create your newsletter, and then cut and paste the HTML into your newsletter management system. In fact, it's so simple that I can't really see much benefit in an integrated solution.

Thanks mate, but I'm really looking for something super simple so clients without any html knowledge can design and broadcast email easily.

I have been using Infacta Group Mail Pro for years to manage and distribute email newsletters for content sites and it's great. Simple to use, flexible and very cost effective to buy the license. It should satisfy most if not all of the requirements you listed.

visca:

The solution you mentioned looks pretty good and looks like it will do some really cool stuff. Do you know of any solutions that will help manage the metrics of campaigns?

The same company you mention has a solution, but it is an online solution that you have to pay a monthly fee for. I was hoping for a software package that you didn't have to pay a monthly fee for, but would still offer the metrics and tracking of email campaigns.

We use constant contact. It has an integrated newsletter creation tool. You don't have to know html to use it. It isn't particularly expensive.

Only downside I can see is that we never get more than half of the subscibers receiving the email. But, that may well be fairly typical.
