Okay, I issued a press release about a week ago on prweb, 50,000+ views and 400+ "pickups" (if those mean anything) so far. Now, if it gets used, what lag times are common for different types of media outlets? Is there a press release "bell curve" for response, with a valley for lag time, a peak for the bulk of activity, and another valley for when they are put out to pasture?

My main site is news and business oriented
I also became a press releases repository
that are serialized in 3 main categories
Also I dispatch PR for my clients to all sorts of media

My experience in that field tells me that there are no precise answers to you question
Most editors will first look at relevance and level of interest that the PR might generate
Then depending on timing and available spot to fill will publish it

Web is different fot the reaction time is shorter when I receive a new PR
I check it out, if I like the content then it will be almost posted as soon as received

So most important again here is content
I discard all PR that sounds like an hidden Ad
