After paying the hefty 2003 tax bill i was researching about tax havens a bit :) ...I stumbled on this page about "Dubai" - it looked like an ideal paradise ...no corporate /personal tax with a good life ...

Unlike other caribbean/european havens this country has a worldclass infrastructure , financial/educational institutions ,connectivity , health care ,cheap labor and low crime rate/political stability! - infact expatriate's outnumber natives by 1:10 :)

Lifestyle looks suberb with amazing beaches/shopping districts , food places and a very active nightlife!

Getting a residency is easy and quick by buying a condo from some developers - you have residency for you and family as long as you own the property! - Obviously all this does not matter to US citizens as they have to pay taxes on their worldwide income , but it seems other nationalities can use it .

I will be interested in hearing from native dubaities and expatriate's who moved there!

I've spent time in Abu Dhabi, the emirate next door to Dubai and can attest to the tax regimes, a very nice place to do business if you can make the move. Bear in mind though that all local business is highly dependant on who you know, not what. The majority of business is done via "Agents" providing introductions. For an alternative I would recommend Bahrain, highly stable, equally generous tax regime and run by Brits!

Roomy,

The Brits left in 1971 when Bahrain became independent. That is not to say they don't still run the place :)

Actaully...it's now become quite a haven for Eastern European types as has much of the Gulf.

Highly bizzare to be serenaded in the bar one evening by a Russian female duet.

Hi,
I am a Brit who has been living in Bahrain for the last 7 years and can say that it is a wonderful lifestyle. I also visit Dubai about once a year and that is even more bustling with people, business and money.
Definately a big money maker IF IF IF you can make the necessary contacts.
Sticky me if you need any more info.
