Hello there,

Although this may seem like a stupid question I figured the best place to visit would be here - there seems to be a lot of expertise present on these forums.

What I was curious of finding out was the resources available to companies who have developed a small client base, but are looking to expand. For example, I've done numerous products for smaller sized businesses, and developed a very presentable portfolio of work.

Now I'm interested in expanding my business and taking on larger projects. I'm curious to know how and where from people go about doing this? Especially in the web development and grapics design business.

I always wondered how business bid for projects tied to larger sized corporations.

Anyways, your help, direction, guidance, or assistance would be very helpful, and I would like to thank all who respond in advance.

Best Regards

One way is search and target companies by SIC code, No. of employees, Annual Turnover, Post Code etc. There are databases available with fairly good analysis/reporting and key contact information.

Thanks for the quick response!

Where are these "databases" located. I've never come across anything like it before. Are there any other suggestions or techniques?

What you are talking about is a proficcient approach to selling & marketing your particular offering.

If you were to be considerably larger you would have likely hired specialist people with specific skills and experience in this field ..

If you cannot do that then you will simply have to obtain / acquire enough of these skills yourself to make a start at it.

Most larger corporations most probably have web designers and programmers already.

The easiest way to get larger corporations is through personal recommendations, "networking".

Larger corporations get bombarded by vendors, you will most likely get lost in the crowd if you try to target them directly with a simple strategy.

You need a strategy that works for you, and probably only you or a business consultant that understands your business inside-out can come up with that.

I look at every contact I make with strategic glasses on. Once in a while I will do someone a favor because I guess they might do me one in the future due to their own circle of influence........networking.

Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. That is the price of marketing to the larger and more lucrative corporations.

I've obtained larger corporations from some of the most odd places. A favor for a not-for-profit that had influence, a round of golf on my own where I got paired up with a CEO also playing on his own.......almost pure luck.

There are no simple solutions, shake a lot of hands and some of them will be large corporate executives that decide they want to get into bed with you!
