Hello and Thank you to everyone in this wonderful forum.

I have been a part-time/free-time webdesigner for 3(real) years now. Like some..it started as a hobby. When I was fresh on the scene (only about 3 mths of real webdesign knowledge), I thought I could just jump right in and start a design business. Not really knowing what it takes. Lucky for me, things didn't work out. I was just another "Joe Webdesigner Wannabe" with no real/marketable skills. Now as I look back, I know that I wasn't ready. But, I learned a valuable lesson. Just knowing how to put a background and words on a page doesn't make you a webdesigner. And with no business plan, you are set out for failure (well maybe not entirely).

Now, after properly taking the time to learn (and always learning), practice, and market myself..It's time to try again. But this time the right way! I currently have a full-time unrelated job but know that the web industry is my passion. I've been camped out in this forum this past week and have been glued to it ever since. I've read all of the tips, suggestions, motivation, etc. Well, I actually only got to page 17 but I'm working on the rest:) Thank you so much for sharing. Webmasterworld is Golden!

I want to plan this right time time. I would like to save enough money to leap out on my own as well as pay my bills. Also, I may be starting a graduate program in Instructional Design and Media in the Fall which will take me 2 years to complete. I've decided that I'd give myself 2 years to plan right and then take the leap to my business.

Does 2 years still sound like a long time to plan?
Sorry this was so long. Thanks again!

Well, if you are going to take that long you should be able to get a nice stable of pro-quality sites under your belt!

2 Years does sound long, but as you would be in classes etc. this would be a good time to build a solid foundation for your business:

ie Get process stuff up to speed (forms, legal issues etc.), get a handle on your personal 'design process', and of course, give you plenty of time to spend mucking around WebmasterWorld!

This is exactly what I am hoping to achieve.
