A friend of mine LOVES Info Select by Microlog:
[miclog.com...]
I saw him using it once - and the thing I like about it most was its search feature - it had a layout of all his notes as little boxes - kind of like this (if memory serves):
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
Then as you would search for something - like widgets - as soon as you typed in "w" - most notes would light up - as most would at least have a w in it. Then less and less would light up as you typed in more letters eliminating the possibilities.
He has been using this for years and it seems to keep him organized. I need something like this. Has anyone used it and NOT liked it - or found something better - or have any tips?
I want to be able to just do things freeform and not have to fill out a bunch of slots in a form. If the president sends me an email with his contact info I want to just be able to open a note and paste it in:
George W. Bush
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Washington, D.C. 20500
Phone: 202-456-1414
Fax: 202-456-2461
www.whitehouse.gov
Then if I get a call on my cell phone that shows up as 202-456-XXXX - as soon as I get to the 202-456 in the search feture - I will know I have only one possible note that could meet that search.
And of course I want to be able to add information at anytime.
This newsgroup is a good place to look for such information [groups.yahoo.com]
Ecco Pro, despite its production being terminated more than 6 years ago, still remains the best PIM, for many (it works fine with all versions of Windows and you can still sync it to most PDAs).
Ecco Pro does not do what you seek but many the members of the Ecco Pro Group are fanatics about cross comparing all the other PIMs as we all have been seeking to replace Ecco for the past 6 years (without success, so far).
At regular intervals, there is a thread where PIMs are compared. Here is a recent one [groups.yahoo.com]
