Welcome to WebmasterWorld Strike. Here's a list - not necessarily the best:

1. To make sure the domain name(s) are legally owned and don't expire
2. To Make sure the website is legal - particularly with regards to content and privacy.
3. If the site is aimed at a multinational audience then the point above should include lawyers
4. That the website works, is online, has no broken links and does what it says on the tin.
5. That enquiries from the site are a) tracked and b) passed on to the right person
6. That is looks and feels right within the corporate brand
7. That it can be found
8. That management are given good, timely information about visitor usage and patterns.
9. That you don't let others FTP onto your webspace! (ie maintain security)
10. That you make more money for the company than you cost.

Dixon.

  • allow consistent and open communication between yourself and the client
  • give the client full instructions on how to access their website.. stats, etc.
  • and yes, keep up your skills and stay in-the-know. some sites created 5 years ago are probably not up to standard now.

The webmaster must have contracts that will cover your behind in the event of any number of bad things that can befall you, including copyright issues (put a hold harmless/client responsible for content and images clause) and payment issues (payment in stages).

I agree with the technical issues above, however I must add one..

Please don't leave incorrect word spelling, and check the grammar. Two real peeves I have
