i've recently started doing some (paid) freelance work in web-site design and some printed stuff. i think that i can generate more business if i have biz cards, and a URL that says a bit about XYZ and what services i offer. how should i present my business? assuming the name of my business is my initials, we'll say XYZ, should i be XYZ Enterprises, XYZ Industries, XYZ Incorporated, etc.? where can i find more information about the differences between these descriptions?

thank you
brd

First of all... are you incorporated or an enterprise? If not, avoid such words in your business name since they imply more than you're good for.

It is important that you pick something people will recognize and remember. Be unique. Be creative. But don't forget to be honest.

Advertising Agencies get paid good money for making this same decision :)

Just make it something that sounds appealing. XYZ Design, XYZ Concepts, XYZ Solutions, Inc, .net, Enterprise, etc etc etc.

Keep it simple. No one will understand what "XYZ Alloy" or "XYZ Plasma" is -- or any other similar buzzwords. But if you do design work, XYZ Designs would be easily understood.

And as DrDoc hinted at, don't call yourself "incorporated" or a "corporation". That, and other similar things, are legal designations that you may not be able to use (depends how you've set up your business).

You may want to take a look at: BusinessInformation [dl.ccc.cccd.edu]

Read beyond the partnership thing and you will see Incorpoartion ....
