Don't ask me why, I don't know.
I do know this, my aversion to email is bound to be hurting my site. One simply cannot ignore visitors emails and expect them to look kindly on ones website.
I'm almost ashamed to admit that I not only ignore emails asking irrelevant questions, or questions I can't answer, but also emails from folks who contribute stuff I really appreciate for the site.
My only saving grace in this stuff is that I clearly tell folks who are thinking about emailing me that I'm terrible about returning emails. Friendly huh?
Oddly enough I have no problems saying anything on a forum that I would say in an email. And I would say anything in an email that I'm not likely to post on a public board, as long as we are talking about the specific topic of my site.
Simple enough, you say, simply set up a forum.
Uhh.... I'm a one man band and managing a forum isn't like to fit into my time schedule anytime soon. Secondly, my answers on the forum would quite possible read something like ...
I dunno
I dunno
I dunno
Thanks for the stuff
I dunno
I dunno
I dunno
Unless.... I set up a forum that could be set to make all posts appear only after they had been approved by me, whenever I might get around to it.
Still not a very friendly approach. And I'd have to be sure to let posters know that there could be a significant time lapse between there hitting the "go" button and my getting around to approving their messages appearance on the forum.
Somehow that just doesn't seem very practical.
Anyone had any experience with a system like that?
Or have any suggestions for how I get over the email aversion thing?
Don't
Thank you for the enlightening and informative answer RC. :)
One consolation is the concept that the folks who ask irrelevant questions are probably emailing everyone they can find and asking the same question. I may not be the only one ignoring them. :)
Don't do that, either. You know that you'll eventually ignore that, too.
LOL...sigh....... yeah.
I'm just cutting to the chase, either you like to chat with visitors or you don't. Interestingly, it was my own aversion to email that originally caused me to develop my lead-generation system. You might try the same approach; remove all email contact and point them to a contact form.
