Hi all,

I am in the process of developing a portal which when finished over time will be quite large. Would I be as well to simply edit existing source code from freeware sites which allow you to download full database driven sites such as in asp.net. Is it a case where you spend so much time editing that your as well to start from scratch yourself?

Opinions appreciated.

I believe you will find there is a lot of editing to be done no matter which route you take.

It is time-consuming to keep a portal current.

I made a portal site with phpnuke. It is well supported, free, very flexible and has more options and add-ons than you could ever use! It makes managemnet of content very easy. I like it alot. You'll need a UNIX server and MySQL to run it.
