Want to buy .co.uk for business but .com in use for adult!

Any thoughts on this one!

I want to buy a .co.uk domain name to use for business but the .com equivalent is being used as a porn directory even though the URL is by no means porn related.

It's a really cool URL and I'm surprised it is available but all credibility is lost as soon as someone used the wrong tld!

Is the only option to go back to the drawing board...?

I think you're right that porn on the .com would cause headaches for other tld's of the same name.

But if it's a really, reeeeeally good name for what you'd like to do, don't give up too easily. Consider grabbing the .co.uk domain while it's available, then hold your nose and see if you could negotiate to buy the .com domain.

You'd need to ponder whether the .com's history would cause lasting negative effects that you couldn't overcome, though.

If that doesn't work, then yes, it's back to the drawing boards.

Seriously, unless you've got some serious cash behind you a porn operater won't hesitate to gauge you if she or he knows you need his domain.

Try to buy the .com first and then get the co.uk.

If I am in your place, then I will give up and register some other domain. There are lot of variations available. Why you want a porn site behind you?

Most likely the porn webmaster will sale you the domain if you offer the proper amount.

I strongly disagree with that. What if someone else registered the .co.uk in the meantime? It would be stupid to think about trying to get the .com only to let the .co.uk slip through his fingers.

It's available now, he should grab it now. If he ended up not using it because he couldn't get control of the .com, the loss would be small.

2 months ago i started making my site, i found that a super good .org was available and i didnt buy it, i tought ill save few days(stupid fo me) , soon as i was going to actually buy it it had been taken, i ahd to remade the whole site....
