Hi Guys,

When a domain expires any idea how long it takes to come back available again?

Hmmmm . . I expected someone would take a shot at this though I can understand why not.

Here's the answer: If only there was an answer we'd tell you. There are many variations on what happens when a domain passes it's renewal/expiration date. Some that expire fall directly into the domain registrar's auction system. Some are swept into SnapNames auction system. Some have shorter time periods that others between when a domain expires and when the registrar takes action.

In the good old days we might tell you that it's X days until the delete cycle begins but that's just not the answer in 2006.

Hey, y'all "out there". You have a near perfect batting, fielding and earned run average when it comes to providing helpful answers. No sloughing off now. No orphan threads. :)

And, as always, thanks for your many contributions.

In the recent past it was easy to answer the question as it was typically 30 to 45 days after the expiration date and even longer if redeemed during the extra grace period which could be another 15 to 30 days added on.

But no more, as Webwork said there is no known answer to it anymore and the renewal time period is also significantly shorter too.

BTW, if you are hoping to reg an expired name you will find it very tough to do even if you knew the schedule assuming the name has some traffic or consists of real words.

Thnaks for the replies. When I posted this I must admit I was panicking. I had a good domain name bought 5 years ago and had forgot to renew. Fortunately they gave me more time to buy - 7 days late.

Reading their TOS it said they would usually allow 30 days but not guaranteed.

I can sleep a little better now I have it back.

Cheers
