I'll start off by admitting I'm a recovering domain junkie. I try to stay away, but they keep calling my name.

Monday I happened across a cute and short dictionary name posted for sale without a price. I calmly offered $125, but before the offer was accepted I found a forum which does domain appraisals where the owner had the name appraised and 5 people placed a value on the name at between $50 to $100. This is a very respected forum, and those that offered their appraisal would certainly appear to be in the know.

After the deal was done, I parked the name and it appears that the name will bring in about a buck a day from type-in traffic and after two days, I've had two offers to buy the name. One was for $1,500.

Just had to post a note to say that yes, there are still great deals to be had in the domain name game!

Just curious, where was it posted for sale, one of the domain sales sites (like sedo), in a forum, or on their own site?

It was posted for sale on one of the dn forums, then I parked it at Sedo.

Congrats! Nice success story, but beware that this is not how things go every day in domain business.
Good luck (it appears that you already have some luck ;)

Yeah, I guess I forgot to mention how many great names I've purchased in the middle of the night thinking I've just discovered gold, only to wake up the next morning wondering what on Earth I was thinking!
