I am the buyer. The price was nagotiated for the domain in the 5 figure mark. All is well except for my comfort level in using an escrow service for this type of transfer. I have concerns with the actual transfer and also with somehow loosing my funds.

The escrow company I will be using is sedo.
The registrar I was going to use for the domain is godaddy.

Any personal experiences or opinions with this type of transaction and or with these companies are much appreciated.

Take care

Sedo is 100% secure, nothing to worry about.
I've made transactions there in the $X,XXX as buyer and seller, always succesfull.

Someone else just said the same thing. I also did some searching to find anyone's bad opinions on other message boards and blogs and didn't find too much. I think I am going to transfer the funds.

Thanks for the input :)

I just did a deal thru sedo last week. Excellent company and thier staff is the best. They also will keep you constantly updated as the transaction progresses. You'll be in good hands

The whole trick is that the funds not be released until the domain is in "lock down": In an existing account only controlled by you, not an account that is a sub-account of the domain seller.

Sedo are fine and are OK to trust with large amounts.

As a seller I find them extremely slow and they were poor at keeping me updated.

Hi,

Yes as others have said, Sedo is reputable but can be very slow.
Since you are already in touch with the seller, I don't see why you would not use the excellent ESCROW.COM. They have a very easy to use "domain escrow" service and the fees are very reasonable.

BTW is the name already at GoDaddy or at another registrar?

ESCROW.com is excellent - have used for $xx,#*$! transactions with no problem - plus when I had a panic once they stopped release for a further 24 hours even though I had authorised.

Can't recommend enough!

I'll have to keep that service in mind... I've used Escrow.com & was happy w/ that transaction, especially since I was the one selling the site ;)

I sold a domain last week for xx,#*$!, through Sedo and the transaction went very smoothly. I also bought a few through escrow.com with no problems.

*FOLLOW UP*

A transfer takes time, however, SEDO was very helpful and made sure there was a smooth transaction.

On a side note, they did go and post the domain & final $ amount I paid on a look-how-much-these-sell-for domain-news website. I would have rather kept the sales details private.

Overall I am very pleased with their services.

I can vouch for slow process with Sedo. While secure, there are about 5 steps, each which take about 4 days. Prepare for a 3 week wait to conclude the sale.

I've been in the process of selling 3 domains for over 2 weeks already. Time can't go fast enough.

On a side note, they did go and post the domain & final $ amount I paid on a look-how-much-these-sell-for domain-news website.

They did the same for me last year when I used their escrow service for a privately-negotiated sale. Publicised it in a "top sales" list which gave the appearance they helped sell it, and without asking either party.

So when I had a good $xx,#*$! sale earlier this year I went to escrow.com, and that deal has remained confidential (and was completed within a matter of hours, not weeks).
