Domain expired over one year ago

Yet it is still unavailable

I am trying to register this domain that expired on 03-May-2003, yet it is still unavailable.

The information is as follows:

Record created on 03-May-2000
Database last updated on 09-Jul-2004

Current Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, LLC.
Record Type: Domain Name
Server Type: Indeterminate
Lock Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK

What could be the reason for this? It is not a special domain either. The domain is for local purposes something in the line of xyzwidgets.com

Anyone have a clue? I called NSI and they have nothing to say about it except that it is unavailable at the moment.

1. NetSol works in mysterious ways.

2. I've seen NetSol hold domains even longer.

3. Sometimes the WhoIs fails to update. Secret NetSol test: Use their "Renew Services" button to see if the domain is actually in unpaid status. (I keep giving away my little secrets because I REALLY want to stop acquiring domains ;-) You should have read the one where I gave away the uber trade secret: Use the phone, not the drop services, to capture dying domains ;)

4. NetSol is also now diverting lapsed domains to their partner - SnapNames - so, if you want it, grab a Snap.

I too have to stop this registering domain thingy! It's getting to the point where I think of a domain to register, get upset because it's taken, and then find out it is regitered to me! lol

Anyway, this domain... I went and checked out your little secret on the renew services. The result is:

Expired - Renew Now!

Should I just put a Snap order on it?

Either a snap or contact the owner, offer to pay the renewal plus ~$200 for the transfer and see what happens. In the old days (1 year ago - before I published the method) it worked a lot better than any other method of competing against the 800 pound drop gorillas.

I'm not saying I invented the practice of using the phone, or that I was the only one doing it at that time. I'm just saying it took awhile for me to come to the obvious conclusion that it might work and that no one else had shared that approach on any domain forum, and when I did reveal 'the system' the post was reviewed 1,000+ times at one forum and received a lot of very positive feedback - like "Dude, that's great stuff, I'm gonna use it, but why are you giving away such good stuff?" The reason: My domain addiction 12-step recovery program ;-)

care to share what step you're currently in? Once you reach the one where you start giving away your inventory give me a holler.

on topic note: shouldn't the new icann rules have an effect on this type of situation?

I did a snap, since the old owner is a big corporation.. so, I don't want to remind them that it expired. It's not a TM or business name, but I can see why they would want to own it.

The biggest reason at this time for a situation like this to occur is that the domain is held for legal reasons (i.e. bankruptcy, court action, etc). It seems there is no real policy on what to do when the domain expires and the courts have said to put the domain on legal lock.

I suggest calling Network Solutions directly and asking about this domain. They may be able to affirm this or escalate to get it out of its stuck state.

I called, but they have no clue aside from saying the obvious "It's unavailable".

You bring a good point, it could be a legal issue.

For now, I've just done a snapback on it and will let it grab the domain if it ever becomes available.
