Buying .us or .info istead of the .com?

The names ending .com/.net/.org/ are gone for my domain name.

Should I register .us (cheaper) or rather .info?

Godaddy offers an option "Foreign entity doing business in the US" when registering .us domain.

Does this apply to me? I'm an individual living outside of the USA but renting hosting space from USA company, doing affiliate marketing and selling to people from USA and other countries.

I also don't know if I need to provide justification as to why I should be allocated a .info domain.

I've heard rumors about dot com domains given a slight SE ranking boost in front of the .ws .us etc domains. Actually I don't believe this but maybe someone can comment?

I don't know for sure about needing a us address to register a .us domain, but I am pretty sure that info and biz you don't need one. I know you don't need one for com,or net.
Try different versions of your name using com or net.
Or better yet figure out a different name so that their is no confusion for your prospective visitors.

I would personally and professionally refer to .com! Several Reasons.

AFAIK, all gTLD's are given the same "points" in the SERPS.

Good to know, Progex.

Actually I added "-info" at the end of the name and got the .com one but I've got one .ws too that is performing great in the SERP's.

I would always suggest .com!

Also, if someone is trying to charge you more for a .info than what a .com costs, they are ripping you off. com, net, info, biz should all be the same price and you don't have to register info or biz for two years mimimum any more either.

luck,
robert

dot com is always better.

You should check out expired domain lists from deleteddomains.com, maybe you can find a good one that is available.

Did I say dot com is always better? ;)

helping to drive the point home - you are better off with a dotcom.

Use any extension that fits your domain , I do extremely well with everything from .biz to .ws

You are not going to "leak" any traffic to the .com.. it's a lame arguement , a dead arguement.

99% of all domains have basically no natural type-in traffic (people actually type-ing in a url in the address bar). No ones going to forget your webaddress..

Your site will be found in the Search engines .. like MOST websites are. In fact if you have a .US .WS , .Info , .De they tend to stand out and actually recieve more clicks.

Once people visit your site if they like it they put your site in their favorites folder .. dosent matter if it's .com .net .Info .whatever

This isnt 1990 ..in fact .com only represents 40% of all domains registered! (compared to 1990 when 90% of all domains were .com )

.DE has nearly 7 milion domains registered!

.Info has over 1 million

.US closing in on 1 million.

The ccTLDS and alternative extensions are actually becoming "prized" pocessioons.. the aftermarket for these domains is strong.. solid generic .info's routinely are sold in the thosaands.

The single most imnportant consideration is whether your domain extension "fits: .. Who are you targeting?

Are you based in Germany and and want to present that image then .DE , Are you basically a informations web company ? a directory a research guide? the .info is a perfect fit

The more you can target your market the higher your returns. Nothing wrong with .com. still the"king" of domains ..problem is one size fits all simply isnt the best option anymore.
