I'd like to purchase a domain that is currently detagged.

The current info is:

Registrant's Agent:
No agent listed. This registration is DETAGGED.

For details regarding the DETAGGED status please
refer to: [nominet.org.uk...]

Relevant Dates:
Registered on: 07-Oct-1999
Renewal Date: 07-Oct-2001
Last updated: 02-Jan-2002

Registration Status:
Renewal required.

So it looks like it ain't gonna get renewed. How do I register it/any way to force a drop on it?

The FAQ tells the owner how to get it back but doesn't explain any process that a.n.other can register it.

Is it a case of using these 'drop-watchers' (do they do anything special) or do I keep looking everyday for a change in status?

If you are not the registrant of a detagged domain name then you no choice but to wait for Nominet to delete the domain...

Yes you can use the so called drop catchers...i have had some sucess...some losses.

It all depends how popular the domain is and if anybody has already got there eye on it...drop cathcing .co.uk is becoming quite popular with about 10 to 20 major players watching thousands of names and many more hobby drop catchers....

I have used many of these drop catchers drop me a sticky if you want to know who suceeded for me

I forgot to add you can of course get your own nominet tag and write your own script like i have done but believe me it is a lot of work...and you still have no guarantee of the name you want.

Wow! That was quick!

Thanks for the speedy response, much appreciated.

So basically, although the renewal was 2 years ago I still have to wait for Nominet to realise that it hasn't been renewed.

With the dates that you have specified I would expect this domain to go into SUSPENDED status any time now. After that, it will be deleted by the registry around 8 weeks later. You can either spend hours of your valuable time checking the whois every day and hope that someone else does not beat you to it or use one of the several UK dropcatching services out there.

Some of these services are only a few weeks old and have not yet "caught" any domains whatsoever and some are very well established and have caught thousands of premium uk domain names. Ask around and get some recommendations. Any dropcatcher who does not publish a list of names that they have caught or only lists very mediocre names is likely to not have a competitive system that is capable of catching decent names.
