k, I want to buy a domain but the owner wanted to charge me $500 for it, its a long double barrled domain and somehow didnt seem worth it no matter how much I wanted it, the whois report said it was expiring soon anyway and in brief emails exchanged with the domain owner I had found out that the he didnt want it anymore and hasnt used it for sometime. but now im stuck with a problem, I need the domain quick and it has been expired for about 10 days, the registra the guy brought it with says that they hold it for 30 days, but u guys have worried me in some of your posts saying that you've had to wait months for expired domains to become available, how likely is this, whats a hostage fee? the creator.

Hi the_creator,

Welcome to webmaster world.

Now the owner has a reason to keep it, "cuz you want/need it".

If you want that domain domain, than you can try:

1) wait for few days till it is dropped (or for few months)
2) register the name when it becomes available.
or
3) I think the owner might still have like 30 days to renew it... ask him to renew it and pay even more money (I would let it expire and use below services to grab it)

Now if you really care about the name and you kinda seem to be willing to pay 500 bucks for it.. I would advice you to look into

Pool.com
SnapNames.com
GoDaddy.com
NameWinner.com

As these are 4 good domain snap service (I say pool is # 1... cuz it generally wins the best domains)

Again good luck with your domain hunt.

Thanx for your reply, the owner doesnt know what he's doing and I am the only person to have even vaguely been interested in the domain for some time (like 3 years), as it is quite a specific name! I'm not really willing at all to spend $500 because for what it is that would be daylight robbery! if I asked him to renew the domain, the registrar he is with (I have recently found out) will charge him 150 pound (not sure what that is us, was on the gb site, but it is a lot!) which is surly going to bump his price up, and enquiring any more may even give him the confidence to go out and market that he has the domain, so I think I mite put off making another offer! so all in all I think i'll look up some of these companies that will snatch the domain for me, thanks again, the creator.

The guy renewed, must have wanted it for sommin, I think its time for another offer! what do u think is realistic for quite a long, hyphenated domain, bearing in mind that im in no way made of money :)? the creator.
